Breast cancer affects the whole family.  We know that you have a lot to deal with right now - your diagnosis, your treatment, your emotions.  And yet, you're still "mom".  Your family needs you and they are just as concerned as you are.  Maybe they don't know how to show it.  Maybe their fears are overwhelming.  Maybe they resent the change in the every day routine.  It's all normal.

We want to help.  We hope that you and your children (and spouse) will join us for this inaugural program.  If you can't attend, we still want your children to attend.  Perhaps a grandparent or other caregiver could attend with them.

You don't have to complete your breast cancer journey alone.  There is a lot of information available that we can provide for you - books, videos, pamphlets, websites, programs.  We want to help you and your family to understand and cope with your disease.

We'll be there for you.  All you have to do is let us know you are interested and how we can help.

GIFT for KIDS' program includes a group discussion led by trained social workers, a recreational therapy period, live entertainment, a "kid-friendly" luncheon, a wrap-up session together with the parent(s) and lots of take-home information and goodies!

The
"PARENT as PATIENT" portion runs in conjunction with the GIFT for KIDS session.  It will include an introductory welcome, an overview of resources available, brief presentations by some of the support services offered, a relaxing luncehon, lots of resource material to take home and a question and answer session with our social workers, support staff and breast cancer survivor volunteers, and finally a short session together with your children.

WHO MAY ATTEND? Children, ages 5 through 19, whose mother (father) or primary caregiver has been diagnosed with breast cancer within the last year.  Age appropriate groups will be formed, based on registration.  The children must be aware of your diagnosis.  The breast cancer patient is encouraged to attend the Parent as Patient session.  If this is not possible, a primary caregive may attend in your place.  Your spouse is welcome to join you, but is not required.
